The Shala was born during the 2020 pandemic lockdown.

A weird time to open a yoga and meditation studio.

We need community, human connection and a safe practice space now more than ever. After riding the wave of changes that came with the pandemic, with some planning, The Shala came into existence.

Śāla (शाल) is a Sanskrit word referring to the “sal tree,” a species of tree commonly referred to in English as “shala tree.” The literal translation of Śāla is “being in a house” or “at home.”

Embracing both the botanical element of the word and the idea of being home, the mission of The Shala is to provide the Windsor community with a safe, welcoming, heart-led and nature-centric studio space to foster growth in your yoga and meditation practices.

The Shala uses biophilic design in the studio space, greeting you with a lush, green moss wall, beautiful live edge wood, and lots of plants - our goal is an indoor jungle. Biophilic design increases connectivity to the natural environment through the direct use of nature - we’ve used light, plants, sounds, and natural colours and minerals. There’s also a wealth of health benefits to hanging out in biophilic environments. So, come check us out. You’ll feel right at home.

Big love,

The Shala
